Spectrum Appraised at CMMI Level 3

September 6th, 2023|

Spectrum Comm Inc., announced that its Government Services division has been appraised at CMMI for Services Maturity Level 3, and its Go-Box division to CMMI for Development Maturity Level 3. Spectrum was appraised by Neil Potter of the Process Group, and joins those companies successfully appraised for both services and development against CMMI V2.0.

The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) was developed by the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University as a process improvement tool for projects, divisions, and organizations. The DoD and U.S. Government helped develop the CMMI, which is a common requirement for DoD and U.S. Government software development contracts.  CMMI is a process and behavioral model that helps organizations streamline process improvement and encourage productive, efficient behaviors that decrease risks in software, product, and service development.  The CMMI Institute defines an organization at Level 3 as having well-developed processes that are characterized and understood, and are described in standards, procedures, tools, and methods throughout the organization. At Spectrum this set of standard processes, are captured in the Enterprise Process Model, which served as the foundation for the assessment at Maturity Level 3.

An appraisal at Maturity Level 3 affirms the years of effort Spectrum has invested to ensure all business activities meet top quality objectives in delivering to our customers, internal and external. This successful appraisal builds upon Spectrum’s initial CMMI appraisal at Level 3 for Development in 2020 under V1.3 and the ISO 9001 certification Spectrum has held since 2007.

Jeff Wassmer, Chairman and CEO of Spectrum, stated, “I’m very proud of our Government Services and Go-Box product teams. This assessment validates their commitment to high quality processes which consistently deliver exceptional results for our customers”.

CENSECFOR Takes a Boat Ride

August 1st, 2023|

June 28, 2023, Chesapeake Bay, VA – three of our own, William Washburn, Bradley Schulz, and Brad Waters, as well as other CENSECFOR staff, had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours on the water with CENSECFOR Level 2 Coxswain (boat drivers) instructors.

After a safety brief and quick orientation on the 11 Meter Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) they pulled away from the pier, exited the channel, and entered open ocean (aka the training area) where they were given a chance to experience how the boat handles and maneuvers.

Thankfully, the bay was calm and they were able to hit speeds near the boat’s limits. Ryan performed high speed turns, a crash-back (going from forward to reverse quickly), and they even got to do some “wave hopping”. Other than getting a little wet and bounced around some, they returned pier-side with more knowledge and a greater appreciation for what CENSECFOR instructors do.

Site Lead Kevin Catherman states, “As a member of the CENSECFOR team whether you are staff or a contractor, we are all working towards the same common goal of training the fleet. Anytime you are given the opportunity to witness and participate in some of this training firsthand, well that is a good day. Not only are you walking away with tremendous memories (which only a small percentage of people have) you now have a better awareness of what the trainees will be experiencing.

April 11th, 2023|

April 11, 2023 – Newport News, VA – Brad Waters, Instructional Designer at Spectrum Comm Inc. receives a check of $1,000 on behalf of the organization VFW-Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2894. This is the second year Spectrum has donated to the annual Bataan Death March Commemorative Walk which took place on April 8th at the Great Dismal Swamp, Chesapeake, VA.

Every spring, this event remembers the veterans who gave their lives in the 66-mile Bataan Death March which took place during WWII. The march began on April 9, 1942 and lasted approximately 5 days. The Japanese army marched approximately 66,000 Filipino, and 10,000 American prisoners of war from the southern Bataan Peninsula to Camp O’Donnell, approximately 66 miles. It isn’t known for sure how many prisoners died on the route, or at the camp, but it is in the tens of thousands between the Filipinos and Americans.

“The donation helps us (the VFW 2894) raise money,” Brad Waters shares, “This is our largest fundraiser of the year. This money goes right back into helping local veterans and their families…of any era. We build ramps, enlarge bathrooms/doorways, repair/replace roofs, do yardwork, etc.”
