Newport News, VA, Spectrum Comm, Inc., has completed the acquisition of Superior Motion Controls, Inc of Farmingdale, NY located in the heart of Long Island, the legendary home of the defense and space industries.
Superior Motion Controls has been delivering custom electromechanical solutions from their facilities in New York for over 35 years. They have designed and manufactured a variety of precision components and systems for the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, and NASA working through defense prime contractors. The company specializes in precision components including gear box assemblies, servo mechanisms, control actuators, gearing and gear trains, and other key components for the United States’ most advanced defense systems. The company also has expertise in the engineering, design and development, qualification testing, and reliability analysis for full lifecycle support from prototyping, full rate fabrication and assembly, to support of products in the field.
The purchase of Superior allows Spectrum to diversify its business from the current focus on services. The diversification and synergies created by this purchase will enable both Spectrum and Superior to grow by creating new opportunities built upon the foundation both companies have established with US Government customers. Spectrum has added Chris Myers, a proven defense industrial base executive to the management team to lead the new manufacturing division.
“I’m very excited about the addition of Superior to our business, said Jeff Wassmer, CEO of Spectrum, “the combination of these two entities will enable diverse, innovative and more cost effective solutions to our government customers.”
