April 14, 2015 – Newport News, VA – The Spectrum Foundation hosted its annual “Strike Out Hunger” bowling event to raise funds and food for the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank on March 28. Employees, family and friends donated 524 pounds of food and $1100 to the Foodbank. The total donations will help provide the equivalent of 4,800 nutritious meals in our community.
The event was a huge fundraising success with 75 registered participants; multiple Spectrum and family teams along with local partner teams from Aerotek, Saint Leo University, Victory Family YMCA and the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. Food & drink was provided by the Joint Base Langley Eustis (JBLE) bowling center. Prize drawings were held throughout the event including a 27” TV and a YMCA membership package.
Donna Tighe, Food and Fund Drive Manager for the Foodbank remarks on the event’s success, “Events of this type take a lot of time and hard work, but the results transform lives for the thousands of individuals who struggle with hunger. We value our relationship with Spectrum and are thankful for your generous contributions. Thank you for bringing hope to the table with the Strike Out Hunger Food Drive.”
Spectrum CEO Jeff Wassmer states, “No one should go hungry, yet many people are at risk in our community and across the country. Hunger can be affecting your neighbor, your co-worker, your child’s best friend. The responsibility rests on us all to help our friends get nutritious meals. The Spectrum Foundation would like to thank all volunteers, donors, sponsors and the JBLE Bowling Center staff for joining us to support the community!”
