Newport News, VA – On October 9, 2010 Spectrum employees participated in the 2010 American Heart Association Start! Heart Walk at Newport News City Park. Through the combined efforts of Spectrum, the American Heart Association, and other community partners, over 5,500 members of the community were educated on the warning signs and risks of heart disease and stroke and informed of how to live healthier lifestyles.
The Hampton Roads community was able to raise over $550,000 in funds for cardiovascular research grants, education, and awareness. The American Heart Association will wisely allocate the funds collected in research and programs that can benefit our entire community.
Jeff Wassmer, President and CEO of Spectrum states, “We were honored to support and partner with the American Heart Association. Through the nationwide Start! Heart Walks our employees were offered an opportunity to get involved and make a difference. To participate in activities that better ones own health while providing support to an organization that impacts so many, the benefits are non-tangible.
