Newport News, VA – February 10, 2012. Virginia Business released their official rankings for the 2012 Best Places to Work in Virginia in their February issue. Spectrum was selected as number 10 in the large employer category. Previously, on November 21, 2011 Spectrum received a letter from Mr. Bernard Niemeier, President and Publisher of Virginia Business, congratulating the company for being selected.

This employee-satisfaction survey and award program, created by Virginia Business and Best Companies Group, was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Virginia benefiting the state’s economy, its work force, and businesses.

To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity;
  • Be a publicly or privately held business;
  • Have a facility in the state of Virginia;
  • Have at least 15 employees working in Virginia;
  • Must be in business a minimum of 1 year.

Organizations from across the state entered the two-part survey process to determine the Best Places to Work in Virginia. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top organizations and the final ranking.

Jeff Wassmer, President & CEO states, “Employee satisfaction and an inviting culture are of the utmost importance to me and should be for any CEO striving to grow his or her company and have strong retention numbers. It is no secret that recruiting to fill vacant positions is a large expense, especially in the contracting world. Knowing that a minimum amount of employees had to voluntarily complete a survey, giving honest feedback of our workplace to be considered for this list, is the best type of compliment to me. Being selected for employee-satisfaction awards programs is a huge reward and tribute to all here at Spectrum. Additionally, having started the company with three employees in Hampton in 1999, it feels GREAT to be recognized in the large employer category. It’s been a great climb and Virginia’s business-friendly environment has been a definite enabler to our success.”
