Newport News, VA – May 21, 2011 Spectrum, a veteran-owned business headquartered in Newport News, VA, sponsored Run for the Dream, one of the most anticipated races of the year. This inaugural event featured an 8K/Fun Run on May 21st as well as a Half Marathon on May 22nd in Williamsburg, Virginia. An Achievable Dream organized and hosted the weekend races to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides assistance to injured military veterans and An Achievable Dream itself, a Kindergarten through twelfth-grade school in the Newport News area offering a cultivating, positive, and high-success environment for underprivileged children.

Over 4,000 runners supported the two-day event, which consisted of individual runners, families and Wounded Warriors. We had a tremendous turnout of Spectrum employees and their families who participated in the racing events and volunteered at the Expo and water stations. Jennifer Thomas, one of our runners reflected, “Run for the Dream was definitely one of the more challenging races, but it was also one of my favorites. Running for such a great cause was inspirational and rewarding. Every time I wanted to stop I just kept thinking “I can do it” and it kept me going. Not to mention all the support from the volunteers and everyone from Spectrum. It was nice to see familiar faces pushing us along and giving us support. I am definitely looking forward to racing again next year”.

Jeff Wassmer, Spectrum President & CEO stated, “An Achievable Dream and the Wounded Warrior Project are two very dynamic and vital organizations that we are proud to support. An Achievable Dream truly embodies the vision of a bright future for our children of tomorrow in unique ways. Several employee-owners and I recently took a tour of their facilities and interacted with these talented and vibrant youth. Both the children and this program left a mark on each of us. The Wounded Warrior Project is a tribute to the brave men and women who fight to uphold the values that our country was founded on. We take pride in supporting Warriors in any way we can.”
